Central Illinois Summit Since 2009, nearly 200 junior high and high school students each year in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, participated in a Semester of Service: The Power of a Promise. The "semester of service" began on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and culminated on Global Youth Service Day weekend in April each year. During the "semester of service" students develop a service-learning project around one of the Five Promises of the America’s Promise Alliance.
